Afeni Shakur Davis mother of the hip hop legend Tupac Shakur died Monday night. She was 69 years old. Reports say she died from possible cardiac arrest.

Shakur, born Alice Faye Williams, changed her name when she moved to New York City and joined the Black Panther movement. Tupac mom was an activist a businesswoman and philanthropist.

After Tupac died in 1996 , Afeni took over the late rapper’s estate, which reportedly earns about $900,000 each year. She created a record label to release Tupac’s unreleased recordings named Amaru Records after she won her case against death row records.  Afeni founded a art programs for young people in Georgia, Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

Shakur served as an executive producer on the movie about Tupac’s life, “All Eyez on Me,” it is set for release in November.

She was the subject on his 1995 song, that discussed his feels toward his mom despite his childhood hardships, “Dear Mama.”
