Who knew Tessa Thompson was a woman of many talents?
The 32-year-old actress stars alongside Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in the Ryan Coogler-directed film Creed. The movie is based on fictional heavyweight champion and Rocky Balboa friend Apollo Creed’s son Adonis Creed.
Tessa Thompson plays Adonis’ (Michael B. Jordan) love interest Bianca, who moonlights as an aspiring soul singer from Philly. But there’s a twist in this plot. While Tessa was playing Bianca, she was actually performing original music she wrote and recorded for the film’s soundtrack.
Tessa’s sound is a hybrid between alternative R&B, soul, and electronic with a splash of experimental vibe. We like Tessa, but we like Tessa’s music – a lot.
What most people may not know is this isn’t Tessa’s first soundtrack rodeo. The Selma actress also contributed two songs to the Dear White People soundtrack when she played the film’s protagonist Samantha White.
Right now, our favorite Tessa record is “Grip,” but that could change to “Breathe” or “Shed You” by next week. Take a listen to Tessa’s three Creed soundtrack contributions below.
