Move over Drake, there is a new Spotify king in town. Fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar has shattered Drizzy’s previously-held, first-day streaming record.

According to Billboard, K. Dot’s major label sophomore effort, To Pimp a Butterfly, garnered 9.6 million album streams in one day. Then Lamar broke his own record on day two with 9.8 million streams. The Compton rhymer pretty much obliterated Drake’s single-day streaming record of 6.8 million plays for his project, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.

Beyond snatching Drake’s title, Lamar also set a global record as he is the first rap artist to achieve as many album streams worldwide on the first day of release. The previous global title holder was Michael Buble for his album, Christmas.

The exciting news led TDE honcho Anthony Tiffith to jump on Twitter in celebration. He tweeted:

To Pimp a Butterfly, which dropped Sunday (March 15), a week ahead of its March 23 release date, grossed $44,160 in global sales in one day of its release. The album also continues to hold the No. 1 spot on iTunes.

While fans and critics continue to praise K. Dot’s latest effort, his rap peers also love the album as well. Check out the tweets below.
