Two of the biggest voices in R&B music are joining forces for collaboration album! In a recent interview with Billboard, Maxwell revealed that he and Alicia Keys are “working on an EP that’s sort of Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell.”

“We got a thing musically. That’s like my little sister. What’s funny is Swizz [Beatz, Keys’ husband] is the champion of all of it. He’s like, ‘You guys have a thing when you make music together,’” he said. “We had a really successful tour together when she first came on the scene and she’s like family. She’s someone that I trust.”

He added, “I feel like when God brings people to you it’s good to keep ‘em around. Not to say I haven’t cut a few fools off [laughs], but for the essential I keep it close.”

Maxwell and Alicia are currently soaring the charts with their duet hit “Fire We Make,” which is the third single from Keys’s latest album Girl On Fire and her 10th No. 1 song to top the Billboard Adult R&B chart.

Maxwell also announced that his fifth studio album SUMMERS will finally hit stores, after multiple delays, in late summer or early fall.

“This new album is another movement into experimenting with soul music, showing people that we don’t paint by numbers,” he said before his performance at this year’s ESSENCE Festival. “I don’t rush to release things. I’m not in love with fame. I’m in love with the creation of music.”

A release date for the forthcoming duet album has yet to be announced.
