Former host of BET’s “106th and Park” Terrence J will premier as the new anchor of E! News with Giuliana Rancic on November 12th. Here are Five Reasons to watch him tonight!

5. He’s a positive role model to young Black men

While most gossip blogs stay afloat due to the abundance of ratchetness by your favorite rapper or athlete, Terrence J is truly one of the “good guys.”  His naturally upbeat disposition and down home Southern charm is infectious, and Terrence’s road to success proves that humility, drive and focus will get you to the finish line each and every time.  When accepting the BE Next award this past summer, he advised young people to “Never give up on to your dream.  Hold on to it fiercely.”

4.He’s one half of Hollywood’s hottest new power couple

Will and Jada may have it on lock as Hollywood’s elite black power couple, but Terrence J and his current squeeze, Selita Ebanks definitely qualify in joining their ranks.  Terrence met the stunning supermodel when she was a guest host on “106 and Park” and when he came down down with the flu two days afterwards, Selita reached out to him and the rest is history.  The photogenic couple are admitted homebodies who prefer to spend their downtime catching up on the latest episode of “True Blood.”

3. He’ll bring an urban perspective to mainstream news

Let’s face it, most entertainment news shows tend to be rather vanilla, but with Terrence J on the scene, he can help to broaden the spotlight to include celebrities of color.  Black Hollywood is coming back with a vengeance on the big screen, and Terrence is just the guy to to chop it up with the latest bumper crop of Black talent.

2.He’s opening doors for more Black men in entertainment

2012 has been a watershed year for Black men in television.  In addition to T.J. Holmes’ BET late night talk show “Don’t Sleep” Steve Harvey has found his niche as a daytime host, and Michael Strahan is winning hearts as Kelly Ripa’s  new co-host on ABC’s “Live With Kelly And Michael.”  Having these men enter millions of homes everyday is not only a reflection of the diversity of our society, but can counter the negative depictions of black men America tends to embrace.

1.He’s worked hard for his success

After graduating from North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in mass communications, Terrence J moved to New York and auditioned for the host position vacated by Free and AJ on “106 & Park.”  Rejected, he drove all the way to Atlanta the next day and told the BET executives “If you’re not going to give me the job, at least hire me as an intern.” Seven years of hard work and determination has paid off big time for Terrence and his new gig on E! News is well deserved.
