Dollar Tree is raising its prices again, and Ohio shoppers are about to feel the pinch! For anyone confused about tariffs, here’s the reality: we’re the ones paying for them us, the consumers! People across Ohio have been grumbling about inflation and begging for leadership to tame rising costs, but the bad news keeps piling up prices are still soaring.

Dollar Tree, one of my go-to spots for stretching a buck, is hiking prices once more. In 2021, the retailer bumped its base price from $1 to $1.25 a 25 percent jump. Then came the $3 and $5 items, which are now climbing to $7. With tariffs hitting hard and the U.S. economy taking a rough turn, Ohioans are facing yet another blow. Dollar Tree sources nearly 43% of its goods from China, and Trump’s additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports is jacking up costs. Add that to egg prices that still haven’t budged, and it’s a tough pill to swallow.

What used to be Ohio’s affordable shopping haven is getting pricier by the day. Another quarter might not sound like much, but it’s a 50 percent increase in just four years. During the company’s earnings call on Thursday, March 13, 2025, Chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling broke the news.

According to Good Housekeeping, he framed the hike as a win for shoppers, promising more variety. “Even as our multi-price assortment expands, most items in Dollar Tree stores will stay at our entry-level price,” he said. “You’ll see $5 dog food bags next to $1.25 pet treats and $3 candy in the aisles. It’s the next chapter of Dollar Tree’s value story in Ohio new items, more choices, and, supposedly, more savings.” What do you think worth it or wallet drain?
