From “Black Panther” to Thandie Newton to Regina King to “Pose,” the 2019 Golden Globe nominations recognized some serious #BlackExcellence…and we’re excited for them!

Sadly, not every deserving person and project was lucky to be part of that elite crew. And while we know that these awards don’t define talent or impact, here are twelve Black performers, creators and shows that should have been nominated and weren’t.

Golden Globe nomination or not, they are still winners in our eyes.

Twelve Golden Globe Snubs That Have Us In Our Feelings  was originally published on hellobeautiful.com

1. Mj Rodriguez, Best Actress in a Drama Series for “Pose”

One thing is clear: We haven’t seen a role this touching and remarkable on the small screen in a long time as we did with Mj Rodriguez’s Blanca on the hit show “Pose.” To not see her name on the list is nothing short of blasphemy. That, and it was a missed opportunity to make history by nominating the first trans actress in this category. Maybe next year mother.

2. Ryan Coogler, Best Director, “Black Panther”

How many films does Ryan Coogler have to direct in order for HFPA to show him love and see his greatness. Yes, we’re happy that “Black Panther” got a nod for Best Motion Picture, but the film didn’t direct itself. Coogler deserves better than this.

3. Viola Davis, Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for “Widows”

Maybe the Golden Globe folks didn’t see “Widows.” That would be the only excuse as to why they turned a blind eye to one of Viola’s most gripping and nuanced roles to date. If you haven’t seen this female-driven heist drama, run to the theaters STAT! You’re in for a treat.

4. Brian Tyree Henry, Best Actor in A Supporting Role for “If Beale Street Could Talk” Or “Atlanta”

Either way, your call, Brian Tyree Henry easily could have been a double nominee this year for his roles in the drama “If Beale Street Could Talk” or the comedy series “Atlanta.” He is truly the actor of our generation and we need the HFPA to get on board.

5. Issa Rae, Best Actress–Comedy TV Series for “Insecure”

Hands down: The third season of “Insecure” was one of Issa Rae’s best. The episode where she stalks Lyft Bae and manhandles her way into his house was definitely worthy of some Golden Globe love!

6. Daniel Kaluuya, Best Actor in A Supporting Role for “Widows”

Yes, he was nominated last year for “Get Out,” but Daniel Kaluuya churned out another stellar performance as a cunning violent psychopath in the heist drama “Widows.” Once again, the Hollywood Foreign Press clearly wasn’t paying attention.

7. Indya Moore, Best Actress in a Supporting Role TV for “Pose”

There are so many amazing aspects of FX’s ballroom drama “Pose,” one of them being Indya Moore. The trans actress showed us love, light and vulnerability playing Angel. To watch her character’s arc over the show’s first season was a triumph, one that should be awarded with all the trophies.

8. “Insecure” for Best Comedy Series

Man…between folks fighting in the Lyft to the infamous Beychella episode to Lawerence making a comeback, season three was the season where “Insecure” found its hilarious stride. We’re bummed that this gem didn’t make the final cut.

9. Regina Hall, Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for “Support The Girls”

Regina Hall literally just made history by being the first Black woman to win Best Actress at the New York Film Critics Association Awards for “Support The Girls.” It would have been dope had the Golden Globes followed suit.

10. Barry Jenkins, Best Director for “If Beale Street Could Talk”

We’re not going to say anything bad about “Green Book’s” director, but we will say to see Barry Jenkins not make the list and that guy did is just a crime. “If Beale Street Could Talk” is simply gorgeous and we hope the Academy Awards can rectify this blatant overlook.

11. Sterling K. Brown, Best Actor in a Drama Series TV for “This Is Us”

Yes, Sterling K. Brown won the Golden Globe last year for “This Is Us,” but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have been recognized this year too. His role as Randall continues to give us life and provides a refreshing look at Black fatherhood.

12. Natasha Rothwell, Best Actress in a Supporting Role TV for “Insecure”

This may have been a dark horse nomination here, but we’re sorry: Natasha Rothwell’s Kelli is PURE HILARITY! Just Her peeing on herself at Coachella and accusing that white girl of voting for Jill Stein ALONE deserves a Golden Globe. Who else on TV made you laugh that hard this season? We’ll wait.

13. “Atlanta” for Best Comedy Series

We’re super stoked that Donald Glover got his shine for Best Actor in A Comedy Series, but what about the actual series? Makes no sense to us. Maybe Teddy Perkins can help us figure this out.
