We’ve had a rough afternoon of breaking news and entertainment reports revolving around the highly respected Queen of Soul and her recent medical issues. By now you’ve all probably heard some combination of rumors and reports, but we want to clear the air and confirm a few things about Aretha Franklin’s current health and status.

Fox 2 News in Detroit, the note singer’s hometown, has confirmed that Aretha Franklin has cancer. A close relative of Ms. Franklin’s notified reporter Al Allen of the news and the family’s concern.

Currently, Franklin is said to be doing “okay,” but a request for continued prayers, thoughts and well wishes from the general public and the entertainment community has been released in the statement.

This afternoon, The National Enquirer also reported that Franklin has an incurable form of pancreatic cancer, one that Fox 2 news teams could not yet confirm from a direct representative for Ms. Franklin. If you recall, just last week, the Queen of Soul underwent a surgery for a mystery illness that wasn’t released to the media.

The successful surgery continues to strike a chord of concern amongst us all being that this entire ordeal came under mysterious circumstances. In addition, Franklin was encouraged to cancel all of her current performance dates and scheduled appearances throughout May 2011 due to “medical reasons”.
