There can be only one #1 film at the weekend box office at it was fear that won fans over with the debut of “Paranormal Activity 2.”

Paramount Pictures’ follow-up to last year’s micro-budgeted hit “Paranormal Activity” got a jump on Halloween, as fans packed theaters for another documentary-style thriller about a household plagued by a menacing spirit.

The film raked in a solid $41.5 million debut, beating out the expansion of Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter”.

The first “Paranormal Activity” rolled out gradually from city to city, as fans “demanded it” online. By the time the film went nationwide, it turned into a $100 million hit. So, when the sequel came out, it drew the interest of fans who loved the first.

Last weekend’s top movie, “Jackass 3D” fell to #2 this week with $21.6 million, while “Red” also fell one slot to #3 with $15 million.

Eastwood’s supernatural drama “Hereafter” expanded into nationwide release and came in at #4 with $12 million. And closing out the top 5 was “The Social Network” earning another $7.3 million to take its total to $72.9 million.
