A survey of 5,500 college students by a Ball State journalism professor reports that text messaging surpasses e-mail and instant message mediums. With only about a quarter using e-mail or instant messaging, 97 percent send and receive text messages.

Michael Hanley, Ball State journalism professor found that 49 percent of mobile communication devices are smart phones, up 10 percent since October of 2009. Due to their hectic lifestyles, college students are leaving their computers and e-mail behind to embrace their smart phones and texting.

If you are you a college student, what do you think about this survey? Are you among the 97 percent that send and receive text messages over e-mail and instant messaging? Tell us, we want to know the best way to reach you!
