The Karate Kid, the martial arts remake to the 1984 classic film by the same title, had an amazing debut last week.

Its opening weekend grossed $56 million, and today it stands at a ten-day take with $106.3 million in earnings! Not bad for the breakout star Jaden Smith.

This weekend movie goers caught up with Andy and his toys for another addition to the Disney Pixar Animation series: Toy Story 3. The movie took in $109 million in three days, making Toy Story 3 the best Pixar debut ever out ranking The incredibles. Success is no surprise as all 11 Disney Pixar’s films have opened at number 1.

Toy Story 3 also continued Hollywood’s streak of 3-D hits. The 3-D version of the film accounted for 60 percent of revenue, though it played on more 2-D than 3-D screens, according to Disney. Tickets for 3-D movies typically cost a few dollars more than 2-D versions, as us mommies know.

The possibilities are endless when writers, directors, artists keep children in mind. Its sure to be a hit if you win over the kids and their parents.
