The 2010 NBA Finals are in progress, but the folks over at 2K Sports are already hard at work on the next installment of their NBA 2K series … NBA 2K11.

The official TV for the upcoming game aired during Game 1 of the Finals on Thursday evening (June 3), showing a pretty crisp version of some of the cut scenes and gameplay.

It’s already got people excited.

Other news about the title has leaked … that his Airness, Michael Jordan, will have some sort of involvement in 2K11’s development … and will grace its cover.

Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports, told CNBC.com that getting the retired player and Charlotte Bobcats owner to appear on the game’s cover is the “ridiculous win of all-time”.

“We’ve made a lot of progress over the past 10 years, but we know we have the best NBA video game ever made here,” Argent said. “So we thought to ourselves how can we embody that and there was only one person on that list who we wanted to have and that was Michael Jordan. Actually getting this done is the most ridiculous win of all-time.”

However, it’s still unclear how Jordan’s character will appear in the game, especially since he’s been long retired from the league. Argent said there will be “some really good surprises” though, and guaranteed that 2K11 would be the best-selling game in their 10-year NBA 2K franchise.

“It’s an honor to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K11,” Jordan said, in a statement. “I have no doubt that NBA 2K11 will be a big hit with gamers and basketball fans alike. I’m looking forward to getting back out on the court, virtually.”

According to Yahoo! Games, Jordan hasn’t appeared in a video game since 2004, due to a licensing agreement he had with the NBA, where his rights weren’t part of the group licensing agreement that included all the other players. Basically, it means his likeness didn’t automatically appear in many games while he was playing.

Now, he’s finally here.

NBA 2K11 is set to drop October 5th.
