MTV's 'Catfish' Returns: Wait, What?! People Are Still Falling For Internet Phonies?!

MTV is bringing back it’s controversial online dating expose reality show, “Catfish” for a second season. If you were around for the first season or even the feature film of the same name, you’ll know that there’s people out here fooling poor, unsuspecting internet surfers with promises of love and devotion that they have no intention of carrying out because they are not who they say they are.

The original public victim of “catfishing,” Nev Schulman and his partner in investigation, Max Joseph apparently have enough deceitful lovers to fill up another season. In 2013, how in the world are people still being fooled with faux online love? There has to be a reason why someone who considers themselves your fiance hasn’t even stepped foot in the same room as you in eight years–as is the case with one of the season two stories.

As a former “catfisher,” I get why these people hop online, searching for a love they think they deserve, but they don’t get. But what I don’t understand is how are these people getting away with fooling their wannabe lovers in a day when technology allows for Skype sessions and other ways of proving we are who we say we are online? Not only that, but since “Catfish” has become a bigger topic, people should be a lot more wary when it comes to making love online, right? Either way, I know I will be watching! “Catfish” Season Two airs on Tuesday, June 25th at 10pm EST. If you can’t wait, there’s a special airing on Monday, June 17th at 11pm EST called “Hooked On Catfish.”
