When the jingoist question of whether Syrian refugees should be allowed in the country popped up, many put one person at the center of their argument: Steve Jobs. Don’t you know Steve Jobs is the son of Syrian immigrants? Would we get another Steve Jobs if Syrians were banned? Could we live in a world without Steve Jobs

It’s myopic logic, but Jobs’s Syrian heritage is no lie. That fact is at the center of Banksy’s latest work.

Banksy’s graffiti showed up in the Jungle region of Calais, a port city in Northern France. It shows Jobs with a bag of presumably personal belongings flung over one shoulder and carrying an early Apple desktop on the other hand. “Nobody deserves to live this way!” is in yellow paint on the wall next to him.

“We’re often led to believe migration is a drain on the country’s resources but Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant,” Banksy said, according to BBC. “Apple is the world’s most profitable company, it pays over $7bn (£4.6bn) a year in taxes – and it only exists because they allowed in a young man from Homs.”
