Every Child Succeeds Economic Impact Exceeds $20M+

Cincinnati-based Every Child Succeeds (ECS), founded over 16 years ago, benefits thousands of families and their babies, and provides positive economic impact in the communities in which it operates.

“We started ECS to improve the lives of moms and babies and increase their chance to have a healthy future. Additionally, we have positively impacted the fiscal health in the communities in which our participants live, work and pray,” Judy VanGinkel, President and Founder of ECS said.

How has this happened?

ECS has conducted over 500,000 home visits and benefits over 24,000 families annually, while at the same time, significantly benefiting the Cincinnati economy.

ECS mothers generally are unmarried, have low income, are Medicaid beneficiaries or receive inadequate prenatal care. To support these at risk mothers, ECS designs services to promote early childhood development and parenting skills.

Peter Mallow PhD, Health Economist for CTI Clinical Trial & Consulting Services, conducted an in-depth study of the positive economic benefits of ECS.

According to Mallow, “Our objective was to holistically study the benefits and costs of ECS in the region. We learned, through evaluation and application of findings from the home visiting literature, that for every $1 invested in ECS, $1.65 in benefits was returned within 2 years. These included benefits to the child, the mother and society at large.”

As an organization, ECS provides a significant economic impact for the Cincinnati Region. In 2014 alone, the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) output from ECS within the Cincinnati area was $20,007,313.

In addition to ECS moms and babies experiencing better overall health, greater employment opportunities and higher earnings, the community also experiences monetized economic benefits, including:

•Improved health of the community’s mothers and children

•Reduced infant mortality / fewer birth complications

•Reduced health care utilization

•Lower unemployment and higher wage earnings

•Reduced usage of government support programs

•Additional monetary benefits to the community
