Meek Mill Album 2015

With Meek Mill being the fire starter of one of the most publicized hip-hop beefs in recent years, the Philly born rapper shared his story with Billboard. There’s no mention of Drake in the interview, as it occurred before the ghostwriter fallout.

Instead, Billboard details how Meek literally started from the bottom. Born Robert Rahmeek Williams, he grew up in the tough streets of North Philly.

After his father was shot and killed when Meek was five-years-old, his mother did her best by working at a bank, doing hair and countless other odd jobs to make ends meet. Meek turned to the streets, which involved carrying a gun nearly all the time.

At age 18, Meek carried a gun when he was on his way to the local bodega as Philly Police swarmed him. After cuffing and dragging him inside his house, “beat the sh-t out of me…I had a concussion, stitches, braids ripped out. My blood was on the ceiling, on the floor.”

Meek also comments on Nicki Minaj‘s sex-filled raunchy 2014 hit single “Only,” saying, “She wasn’t my girl then, but now she wouldn’t even had did that,” he says.

Even after comments from Joe Budden (and now Drake twice) he admits that his rough exterior can’t always be prominent, especially with songs like “All Eyes On Me,” which even he admits Nicki lyrically-slaughtered him on.

Meek Mill is also aware of the prevalence of police brutality in America’s Black communities, but admits that he’s “scared to be political.”

“You get too powerful and more people try to take you out. My son ain’t trying to hear that his dad got put away because he was fighting for the country,” Meek added.

With his current feelings towards violence, it’s a welcome relief knowing that this Drake beef wont spill out into the streets.
