Kentucky became the 22nd state to ban texting while driving, as Gov. Steve Beshear signed a new bill into law Thursday, WLWT.com reported.

Starting in July, drivers caught texting will only be given a warning. But in 2010, the fine for a first offense will be $25, and any subsequent offenses will cost a driver $50, according to the WLWT.com report.

The new law also prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a cell phone for any reason while driving.
