Trey Songz Slams R. Kelly Again Vibe Cover Story – Trey Songz has been very vocal with his disdain for R. Kelly as of late.

While Songz’s career began back in 2005, the R&B singer flew under the radar until his third studio album Ready was released in September 2009, which is when he peaked as an artist. Ready is Songz most successful project to date. And it seems his newfound fame has given the 25-year-old a boost of confidence and even more gutsiness to go after veteran in the game, R. Kelly.

Songz, real name Tremaine Neverson, has denied that there is beef between he and the King of R&B, however, it’s evident that they don’t share a friendly relationship.

In the upcoming issue of Vibe, Songz again talks about Kelly, accusing him of biting 80’s R&B singer/songwriter Aaron Hall’s style. The “Say Aah” hitmaker admits he’s done the same with Kelly’s style, injecting some of the star’s subtleties into his music.

“People say, ‘Well, I hear a lot of R. Kelly in your music.’ So what?” Songz told the magazine. “R. Kelly took Aaron Hall’s whole style. Two albums straight… You can say what you want about me.”

The Virginia native recently lashed out against Kelly on a mixtape for the singer’s use of Auto-Tune, claiming he was chasing trends instead of paving the way. It wasn’t Songz’s first diss record, as he has been throwing jabs at the seasoned crooner way before he signed his first recording contract with Atlantic Records. A then-unknown Songz remixed R. Kelly’s popular single “Trapped in the Closet.” Kelly then decided to make a full-scale series of “Closet” songs. In Songz’s version, he responded as the man in the closet hiding from what was taking place between Kelly and his wife. Kelly then released part two, and in his version, the man in the closet revealed himself to be gay.

R. Kelly responded to Songz’s gibes in an interview, saying the younger singer should “be very careful.”

The April/May issue of Vibe hits newsstands on April 13.
