(Via: Ballerstatus)Gravity is finally dethroned this weekend by the boys over at Jackass with their newest film, Bad Grandpa.
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa topped the weekend box office with $32 million. The film stars Johnny Knoxville as an accident-prone grandfather in the hidden-camera comedy.
“It’s been a very heavy fall in terms of the content of the movies, so I think audiences were ready for something completely lighthearted and out of leftfield,” box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Rentrak told the AP.
Gravity earned $20.3 million in its second weekend to take second place. It’s four-week total is a tad under $200 million.
The weekend’s other wide release, The Counselor, opened in fourth with $8 million. The film boasts an all-star cast including Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Michael Fassbender… in a story about a lawyer who finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking.
Tom Hanks’ Somalian pirate drama, Captain Phillips, fell to #3 with $11.8 million to bring its three wee total to just over $70 million; and it’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 closing out the top 5 with $6.1 million and a domestic total of over $100 million.
