The six-year anniversary of rapper Proof’s death is to be marked by a benefit concert in his honour in his native Michigan.
The D12 star, who was signed to Eminem’s Slim Shady Records, was gunned down outside a Detroit nightclub on 11 April, 2006, aged 32, and up-and-coming hip-hop stars from Proof-founded record label Iron Fist Records, Obie Trice, Supa Emcee, and Killa Kaun, are to perform at local hotspot Saint Andrew’s Hall in a bid to celebrate his memory.
Rapper Moe Dirdee tells The Detroit News, “Each artist on the label has a different piece of Proof, something we’ve all gathered from him. When we get together, you see it, you see those different pieces of him.”
And label executive 1st Born is thrilled to be a part of the project, adding, “It’s very important that we keep his legacy alive because of what he meant to the city. We want to keep his music alive and his legacy strong to build it for his family and the future.”
A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the rapper’s relatives and five children.
