Former “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino has reportedly become the victim of a hate crime after receiving life-threatening fan mail following a performance last night in California.

The singer/actress’ manager has offered details on what exactly went down.

It all started last night at the Pantages Theater in L.A. — Fantasia was reading her fan mail after a performance of ” Fantasia’s manager tells us Barrino became alarmed over a disturbing letter loaded with racial slurs — including the n-word — and a line that read, “go back where you came from and die.” (TMZ)

Within the message, the person claimed to have worked on “American Idol” during her run on the show in 2004.

Barrino opened up a letter filled with racial slurs while in her dressing room. The letter writer claimed to have worked as a security guard when Barrino was a season three “Idol” contestant. An alarmed Barrino immediately contacted theatre security. (NBC News)

According to reports, the Los Angeles Police Department has been contacted.

However, this is not going to stop the young star from doing what she loves, performing. Fantasia shared, “I will not be defeated by one isolated person’s hatred.” It is said that police were immediately informed and security are to be taking extra precautions surrounding the venue. Also, everything that is delivered to her dressing room will reportedly be inspected beforehand. (Right Celebrity)

Fantasia won “American Idol” during the show’s third season prior to venturing into film and music.

For the final performance of the season, Fantasia offered a second performance of “Summertime” that again drew enormous praise from the judges; Simon Cowell remarked that she was the best contestant to ever compete in any competition, including the more than seventy Idol champions crowned nationally and internationally since the show began its first global incarnations.
