Fine, so maybe you’re too old to put on a mask and go door-to-door demanding full-size candy bars. That doesn’t mean Halloween is just for kids.
Plenty of areas bars, restaurants and theaters are throwing events that encourage you to slip on your hot dog costume or clown-prostitute get-up and celebrate the holiday. The best part? You get beer instead of Baby Ruths.
Here are some of the Halloween-for-grown-up events going on in our area.
Northside Tavern – 4163 Hamilton Ave. – Northside
October 31st @ 10pm
This party features local musicians impersonating rock legends The Who, the Ramones and Devo. It’s free. And its promotional poster features an absolutely terrifying clown wearing a Devo hat and drooling blood.
Molly Malone’s Irish Pub And Restaurant – 112 E. Fourth Street – Riverfront
October 31st @ 6pm – 12am
Makeup artists at Molly Malone’s will help zombie-fy you in time for an evening of undead – a crawl through a handful of bars with zombie-themed drinks, music and dancing. A perfect event for the socially awkward – a simple “Braaaaains” will suffice as a hello. Organizer Kurt Strecker says that even though this is a pub crawl, there’s plenty for non-drinkers to do, too.
Nada – 600 Walnut St. – Downtown
October 31st @ 6pm
Because it is a rare event that you can get into such a swanky restaurant wearing a gorilla costume. If you’re not one of the pretty people, you can wear a mask and no one will notice. On Halloween, Nada encourages – even rewards – the best costumes. Plus, there will be drink specials on beer and margaritas.
Bobby Mackey’s Music World – 44 Licking Pike – Newport & Leveee Area
October 31st @ 7pm
Bobby Mackey’s bills itself as “the most haunted night club in America,” believed to house the ghost of a woman beheaded by her boyfriend – among others. Creepy, and a perfect atmosphere for your Halloween drinking. Plus, there will be bull rides and line dancing.
Longworth’s – 1108 St. Gregory St. – Mount Adams
October 31st @ 8pm
Longworth’s lets you choose between good and evil. It holds the “Heaven” part of its party upstairs – “Hell” is, you guessed it, downstairs. Therefore it is entirely possible that you spend the night in heaven and end up in hell. Or vice versa.
Suite at BlackFinn – 19 E. Seventh St. – Downtown
October 31st @ 9pm
This party’s all about “bringing the undead to night life,” or so the restaurant says. Plus, you get $4 Patron drinks from 9 to 11 p.m. and a chance to win some of the $1,000 in costume prizes. Choose your outfit carefully.
Beluga – 3520 Edwards Rd. – Hyde Park
October 31st @ 10:30pm
Pre-party 9-10:30 p.m. Wear best halloween costume to win vodka bottle and sushi. Includes dancing best of reggaeton, salsa, merengue, samba, rock and pop. Special drink features: $5 White Berry Martini, $3 Coronas and half priced sushi after 11 p.m.
Fountain Square – Fifth and Vine streets – Downtown
October 31st @ 8pm – 12am
Halloween-themed music, costume party, lighting effects, refreshments and “scary” surprises.
Mount Adams Pavilion – 949 Pavilion St. – Mount Adams
October 31st @ 9pm – 2am
Cash prizes for top three costumes and best group costume.
