We’ve seen her make some surprise performances lately, popping up at red carpet events and making a newly trusted name for herself again, but we never quite seem to get the confirmation or the sign we need to really believe that she’s back for good.
Well a few folks on the west coast seemed to have coerced her long enough into creating a series of live performances this summer in varying major markets. The reasons are still completely unknown since she avoids press half the time or talks in code the other 50 percent of the time when she grants media access into her realm. But all of that doesn’t matter when you experience Lauryn Hill at her best – live onstage and blaring out of your stereo every night.
Let’s take a look at our girl Lauryn Hill making a live appearance at the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa, CA just last weekend. Ok, for real, who saw that one coming and didn’t let me know so I could buy a ticket?
Lauryn took to the outdoor event with a charm and rocked a medley of Fugee hits and everyone’s favorites from her hit solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I just love how she effortlessly and seamlessly reinterprets her own records. Half of her recent performances are more than satisfying because she never does it all the same. The simply smoldering grooves, the upbeat tempos – none of it remains the same as we first heard it. Lauryn is a true musician because of this and a rare type of artist who’s passion, ambition and creativity are unmatched. She’s still better than most and could continue rising to be the best one day.
Now if only we could get a new album soon. Lauryn Hill, whatever you have in store is totally fine with us. Just please don’t ever stop the music.

LAURYN HILL LIVE AT HARMONY FESTIVAL – PART II
I believe that as talented as she is, Lauryn Hill is really just getting started. She’s already made a very strong impact on music from her early days with the Fugees to her monumental success as a solo artist, a singer/songwriter, a musician, an actress and a producer. She really has barely scratched the surface and even in her public absence, she’s still reminding us all the time why she’s so phenomenal and so necessary to the evolution of music.
How do you guys feel about Lauryn today? She’s like a fine wine isn’t she? Truly getting better and better with time.
