“They were passing through Delmas #65 in Port-au-Prince when reportedly a hail of gunfire rang out and was fired into the vehicle, resulting in Wyclef being shot in the hand. No one else was injured.”

There is no report about the severity of the injury to Wyclef’s right hand, which he plays guitar with.

We’ve heard all kinds of drama when it comes to a day in the life of Lauryn Hill. Ever since she left the Fugee’s rumors spread like wild fire and many of us thought she’d perform again. Wyclef Jean and actor Sean Penn ended their bitter feud on Saturday night in New York City. The two bumped into each other at Haitian band T-Vice’s show at BB Kings in Times Square.

The feud began last summer when Jean announced his intent to run for president of Haiti.  Penn, who spent a lot of time in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that struck the country last January, voiced his doubt that Jean could effectively lead the country. Jean struck back at a concert in New York City claiming that Penn was a cocaine addict.

Upon seeing each other, Wyclef and Sean locked themselves in a dressing room for 30 minutes in order to talk through their differences.  In a show of solidarity later that night, the two Haiti activists endorsed Haitian presidential candidate Michel Martelly, who was also in attendance.

Lauryn Hill is hitting the road for the new year. The Grammy-winning artist has announced a series of intimate shows, kicking off right after Christmas and running into February. 

Ms. Hill, who spent much of 2010 playing festivals in the U.S. and abroad, will appear with a live band on 17 North American dates. Stops include New York’s Highline and Bowery Ballrooms, Chicago’s House of Blues, and two dates in Canada, wrapping in her homestate of New Jersey on February 4. 

Well aware that she “may never play venues of this size again,” some of which she “hasn’t played since the Fugees days,” the reclusive star is excited “to see her loyal supporters up close and personal again.” She will perform reworked versions of Fugees classics and hits from her breakthrough solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Hip-hop performer Wyclef Jean, who recently failed in his bid for the Haitian presidency, has been hospitalized for stress.

A spokesperson for Jean announced on Monday that the rapper, producer and outspoken Haitian activist checked into a hospital in an undisclosed location over the weekend.

He is “suffering from stress and fatigue based on the gruelling eight weeks he’s had,” said his representative, Marian Salzman.

Jean, who is slated to release a new album in February and launch a corresponding world tour, made headlines this summer when he confirmed rumours that he was running for president of Haiti, where he was born.

However, Jean — whose family moved to New York when he was nine and who is currently based in New Jersey — was ultimately deemed ineligible because he did not meet residency requirements.

Though the former Fugees rapper attempted to appeal the electoral council’s disqualification of his bid, he officially withdrew his candidacy last week. Jean, who is one of his country’s best-known advocates and champions, reported being targeted with threats during his brief bid.

“This was not an easy conclusion to reach,” Jean said at the time, “but it is one that was thoughtfully made, taking into account many, many competing factors.”

According to Salzman, Jean plans to “take it easy” and is expected to be released later this week.

Wyclef Jean has finally given up on his run for the Haitian presidency, but he’ll go on to promote a new album.

Associated Press reports that his publicist sent out a statement claiming that the former Fugees star is finally giving up on Haitian politics.

Jean did not meet constitutional requirements to officially run for the Haitian presidency, despite a very public campaign.

He has now conceded to the CEP, Haitian electoral counsel, and their decision and will return to his music career.

His most recent song, ‘Pou Kepa’, was a Creole-language track protesting the CEP..

The release of his forthcoming self-titled album was delayed by his campaign.

It will feature Timbaland, Shakira, Nick Cannon, and T-Pain, and songs titled ‘Hold On (For Haiti)’ and ‘Haitian Slumdog Millionaire’.

LASSER, Haiti — A somber Wyclef Jean held firm Friday that there was nothing in his conversation with Haitian President Rene Préval to indicate that he would not be among the final list of candidates allowed to compete in the Nov. 28 presidential ballot.

The conversation “was not about stepping down,” Jean told The Miami Herald during a morning visit to his rural hideaway.

Jean met with Préval Thursday afternoon, and said afterward, “We feel we are going to be OK.”

The president, he said, was concerned about alleged death threats against him and asked if he needed more security. Préval said he wanted clean elections, and at one point put Jean on the phone with his presidential pick, Jude Celestin, the former head of the government’s road-building outfit.

Jean said he asked Celestin to make good on a new road for his rural hometown and challenged the avid drag racer to a duel.

Asked why he thought Préval arranged the call, Jean said, he believed it was the president’s way of showing that he didn’t want any “ugliness” in the upcoming elections.

Préval has met with or intends to meet with some of the other nearly three dozen presidential hopefuls. He met with former Prime Minister Jacques-Edouard Alexis, who was passed over for Celestin as his INITE platform pick, and also planned to meet with others.

On Thursday night, supporters of Jean protested in front of the Provisional Electoral Council headquarters.

Jean said at least three of the eight sitting members of the country’s electoral council are holding fast and are refusing to declare him ineligible.

But sources familiar with the debates of the council have told The Miami Herald that only the president of the council, Gaillot Dorsinvil, has been pushing Jean’s candidacy, despite 20 pages of legal documents submitted as proof that he is not eligible to run.

Dorsinvil’s staunch support has triggered rumors of possible payoffs. Dorsinvil told The Miami Herald that “it is not true” and the rumors are from people trying to destabilize the process.

Jean denied that he or anyone associated with him have made any payments.

He also said he had heard three members of the electoral council are trying to get exile because “they are being pressured from all sides.”

Wyclef Jean may be considering running for President in his homeland of Haiti. The Fugees founder and musician was born in Haiti in 1972, and moved to New York as a teenager.

After the devastating earthquake in his homeland, Jean returned to Haiti as soon as possible to do a lot of hands on work. He was also a major organizer for the concert to raise money for the country. The efforts from his charity, “Yelle,” also made him one of the first celebrities to donate to the country after the disaster.

Now Jean may be interested for running for president in the country’s upcoming election. In an interview with French newspaper “Le Droit” he is quoted as saying, “I can’t sing forever.”

He also said that he has already filled out the necessary paperwork that is needed to run for office. Other reports say that Jean has been “drafted” to run for president because of the leadership he showed after the earthquake
