Lil Wayne’s countdown to freedom is inching closer and closer every day. It’s actually next month, tentatively on November 4, and his Cash Money Records family is anxiously awaiting his arrival.

There were rumors that Weezy would hold a concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden the day after he’s released. However, Birdman says it’s likely it will take place in Miami. The Cash Money Records CEO told MTVrecently that plans for Wayne’s post-prison celebrations are still being planned. Family first, then a concert, if it fits into their celebrations. “We still haven’t really made up our mind,” Birdman told MTV News. “I think what’s important, we want to see family first. If the concert happens, it happens. But right now, we just want to come home and see our family and party, I think. That’s what we gonna do: just come to Miami, and just party for a minute. Work and party and play. Have the whole team out here, and we gonna do it up. Miami is gonna be Weezy world. Weezy weekend.” Wayne began his sentence earlier this year, after reaching a deal with to plead guilty to attempted gun possession. The deal helped the rapper avoid a lengthy sentence, and instead, got a one year sentence. Now, upon his release, the rapper will gear up for the release of Tha Carter IV, which may come in November. But in a recent conversation with Rap-Up.com, Birdman said a release date has yet to be chosen. However, I Am Not a Human Being, will come first anyway. It was set for September 27th, on Weezy’s birthday, but has since been pushed back to October 12.

(AllHipHop News) A guard on Rikers Island could face disciplinary action for allegedly giving superstar rapper Lil Wayne preferential treatment in the prison.

An investigation has been launched over the alleged actions of Captain Latanya Brown, who is accused of spending extra time with Lil Wayne.

Additionally, the New York Post reports that Captain Brown allegedly allowed the rapper to stay in his cell, while other inmates were ordered out of their bunks and into the recreation yard.

The prison has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to showing favoritism towards any inmate.

In April, just one month after the rapper started his year-long sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a guard at the complex was fired for allegedly spying on Lil Wayne.

Amelia Negron was fired for glimpsing at Lil Wayne, although she denied the charges, claiming her union boss forced her to make a confession.

This is not the first time a rapper has caused controversy on Rikers Island.

In June of 2009, it was revealed that Foxy Brown allegedly received preferential treatment during her 9-month stay on Rikers Island in 2006.

The rapper held a photo shoot and allegedly received unlimited phone/TV use, makeup, luxury clothing and outside meals.

In October of 2009, Correction Chief Peter Curcio and a Rabbi named Leib Glanz resigned over the scandal, after the Brown reports, in addition to allegations that Rabbi Glanz arranged a lavish bar mitzvah for an inmate’s son.

Lil Wayne got a surprise last Wednesday (April 28), when Diddy headed over to the Riker’s Island prison facility to pay him a visit.

Diddy’s visit to the incarcerated rapper was limited to a one hour. However, he is among the pre-approved visitors allowed to see Wayne while he serves his time.

Accordig to the New York Daily News, the hip-hop mogul traveled to the Eric M. Taylor correctional facility on Riker’s not by private transportation, but instead, by the prison’s public bus shuttle.

Even Diddy doesn’t get the VIP treat at jail.

Lil Wayne is behind bars serving a one year sentence for weapons charges.

In related Weezy news, prison guard Amelia Negron announced last week that she was filing a federal lawsuit against the Department of Corrections after she was fired for allegedly spying on the rapper while he was visiting a guest.

A former Rikers guard says she was canned after a bad rap – a claim she tried to sneak a peek at Lil Wayne in lockup.

Amelia Negron, who is preparing a federal suit against the city, said union higherups forced her to falsely confess she was trying to star-gawk.

“I don’t even like rap,” said Negron, 33.

“I like rock and alternative music and didn’t know much about him when they said I tried to see him. None of it’s true.”

What really happened March 10 is that she popped her head into the unit where the performer was being held to see a colleague, Negron said.

“The door to the area was unlocked, and so I went in to say hello, and that officer said, ‘Hey, you can’t be here. We’ve got a celeb here.’ I said, ‘Okay, no problem,’ turned around and left,” Negron said.

She said that, after the short exchange, her superiors claimed she was trying to cozy up to Weezy.

“We did nothing wrong, but we were threatened with criminal charges, transfers, suspensions,” she said.

Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook told her he would take care of things if she just admitted she was spying on the “Lollipop” singer, Negron claimed.

Seabrook said that’s a lie.

“I wasn’t the one who went into an unauthorized area. That wasn’t me; that was her,” he said. “The only reason I got involved is because they were going to suspend her.”

On April 19, the city Department of Correction fired Negron, claiming she had missed too many days of work.

Negron, who was hired in 2008, contends the missed days were for an injury she suffered at the firing range, when she was struck in the hand and chest by another officer’s gunfire.

“I was injured, eventually had to have surgery on my left hand, and they knew that all along,” she said.

But sources said Negron violated sick leave policy four times and had been out for 91 days during her short tenure.

Negron plans to file a federal suit, claiming she was the victim of discrimination and harassment.

A Correction Department spokesman noted Negron was a probationary employee and said her firing was “entirely appropriate.”

After three delays, a new Twitter account and stockpiling new songs and videos, the time has come for Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne reported to a New York City courthouse today to begin his one year jail sentence.

As previously reported Wayne’s sentencing was postponed three times; February 9th, March 2nd and March 3rd, all leading up to his date with fate today.

Wayne reported to court at around 2 p.m. to hear his sentencing. Reports claim that there was a crowd of onlookers and paparazzi outside in a frenzy when he made his appearance.

Following that he was escorted away to begin his one year behind bars at New York’s notorious Riker’s Island.

If Lil Wayne maintains good behavior he could be out of the facility in as little as eight months.

He will not be in the “general population” at Riker’s but will serve his time in protected custody.

Before heading into jail, Lil Wayne utilized his @LilTunechi Twitter page one last time leaving a message to his fans saying,

“Law is mind without reason. ……………..I’ll return.”

According to Sandra Rose, Lil Wayne is getting death threats from New York Crips, who say they are waiting for him in New York City’s notorious Rikers Island prison.

Lil Wayne is constantly promoting the Bloods, their “soowoop” catch phrase, colors and slang. He was previously accosted by L.A. Crips, including G-Unit rapper, 40-Glocc for promoting the Bloods.

Rikers Island has been the subject of many rappers throughout the years. Foxy Brown did a year there, and Tupac once gave a shout out to Rikers.

Lil Wayne’s life revolves around a daily regime of “SportsCenter,” studio time and sweets. But on Tuesday (February 9), the Cash Money lyricist will be formally sentenced to prison after he struck a plea deal with Manhattan prosecutors stemming from a 2007 arrest in New York on gun charges. After he officially enters his plea, the rapper is expected to then turn himself in immediately to begin a one-year jail sentence.

Not since Tupac has such an accomplished and relevant MC faced an impending prison term. But will the lithe New Orleans rapper survive the daunting conditions at the notorious Rikers Island facility?

“Lil Wayne is gonna be OK,” retired NYPD detective and noted “hip-hop cop” Derrick Parker told MTV News. “While he’s in jail, it’s a matter of fact they may not put him with the general population because of who he is and his popularity. They might lock him down and let him come out with a supervisor and stuff like that [when he's] in the main area — but he’s definitely going to be treated differently.”

According to Parker, the way Wayne will be handled will depend on safety concerns for the rapper as well as an effort to maintain as much normalcy at the facility as possible — it won’t resemble pampered treatment by any means. Parker said despite Wayne’s small physical stature and his propensity to signal a particular gang affiliation in his rhymes, the rapper won’t have much to fear in terms of extortion, bullying or worse.

Parker compared Wayne to former New York Giants football player Plaxico Burress, another celebrity who was convicted on gun charges in New York. However, Wayne could be better prepared for life behind bars — Burress hired a jail coach to assist him with acclimating to prison, something Wayne wouldn’t even consider.

“Wayne is from the streets, from the Magnolia Houses in New Orleans, so I’m sure those guys have been in jail or locked up at some point,” Parker said. “So being in prison is no big deal to them. Plaxico isn’t built for that — he’s the type of guy that’s never been locked up like that before. He’s gonna need a coach or someone to tell him what to expect, since he’s not used to that.”

But what exactly can Wayne expect? Fortunately, he won’t have to cut his trademark tresses.

“The days of doing that are over,” retired corrections officer Charles Reid told MTV News. “They can’t make inmates do that anymore — it’s within their rights to maintain any kind of hairstyle.”

Wayne will have a few comforts of home while he’s away. He will be able to watch network television — not cable, however. And he’ll be able to watch DVD movies. He told Rolling Stone recently he plans to take an iPod in with him to assist with writing music, but a source close to the prison facility told MTV News that would not be allowed.

Reid, who worked at Rikers Island for 21 years as an officer and an investigator, said Wayne’s days would continue to be regimented, but in a much different way. He suggested the rapper may have to succumb to some work conditions, whether in sanitation or the mess hall, for example. Reid also noted that different wings of the prison carry different types of criminals, but guessed that Wayne would be housed in a dormitory area and not even be confined to a cell.

“Like a hospital, where there’s maybe 20 to 25 beds in an open ward, or it maybe bunk beds,” Reid said of Wayne’s possible lodgings. “Where he has a nightstand to keep his personal belongings.”

Due to the short nature of Wayne’s sentence — one year, which could mean 10 months, including the possibly of early release after serving 80 percent of good time, possibly putting him back onstage in a little as eight months — the rapper could very well spend his entire term at Rikers Island.

It won’t be known for sure if Wayne will be transferred upstate until he enters the New York corrections system and is processed. (A representative for the Corrections Department did not return several inquiries made by MTV as of press time.)

“I think he’s gonna go in there and do his time and do it quietly,” Parker said. “If he does it with good behavior, that will be a plus for him — then he’ll be out and putting out a new album.”
