Now in my opinion, in the middle of a show plagued by artists obviously lip syncing everything accompanied by several horribly planned out bits and comedic sketches from the presenters and a winner for “Best Hip Hop Female Artist” who doesn’t even have an album out, Chris Brown’s solo tribute to Michael Jackson without a doubt was awe inspiring.

It’s no industry secret that the personal problems that have marred Chris Brown’s career for a little over a year now, but the emotion that guy had on stage last night while doing his thing is exactly what that tribute is and should be about.

The Cameron Crazies lived up to their reputation as the most creative student section in the nation on Saturday by inviting a certain guest of honor to sit in the front row for Duke’s rivalry game against North Carolina.

It was none other than Brian King, the Presbyterian fan North Carolina coach Roy Williams infamously booted out of the Dean Dome earlier this season after King screamed “Miss it, Deon!” while Deon Thompson was shooting free throws.   

“I had a lot of people reach out to me after what happened,” King told the Raleigh News & Observer. “Now that time has passed, this just looked like fun.”

King, a Presbyterian alum, actually grew up a Duke fan, so he no doubt enjoyed watching the Devils break their home losing streak against the Tar Heels. He did emphasize that he has “absolutely no hard feelings” toward Williams, adding, “The whole thing is something everyone can laugh about now.” 

Something else we can all laugh about unless you’re a North Carolina fan is this sign from Cameron on Saturday night referencing Williams’ unfortunate Haiti comparison from last month.

It read: “Text 90999 to the UNC disaster relief fund.” 

Ouch.

With the Buffalo Bills’ recent announcement that they would not be interested in re-signing receiver Terrell Owens(notes), it seems that once again, T.O. is on his own. Though Owens caught 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns in s very uncharacteristically under-the-radar season for him, the Bills will apparently take their relatively weapon-free offense elsewhere. You’d think that a team ranking 25th in Football Outsiders’ Passing DVOA statistic would want to extend the guy another year, especially since he didn’t seem to make an ass of himself for once, but perhaps they were aware that Owens is generally on his best behavior in the first year of any situation.

One team that has been rumored to have interest in Owens is the Baltimore Ravens, the team that has been perpetually one or two offensive weapons away from the Super Bowl for the last decade. They now have the franchise quarterback in Joe Flacco(notes), and as head coach John Harbaugh said during his Saturday press conference at the Scouting Combine, the interest is legitimate — and this is before the end of the league year, when coaches and GMs aren’t supposed to talk about upcoming free agents yet!

I’ve always said I’ve got a lot of respect for T.O. and I know (Ravens GM) Ozzie (Newsome) does too. He had a good year last year, we watched him on tape and he was very effective.

Harbaugh was then asked, why was he watching Owens on tape?

“Well, we watch everybody. You cornered me. You got me (laughs). We’re interested in T.O. We’re interested in all the guys that can make our team better. We were coming back from Iraq last year (on an NFL goodwill tour) with Jon Gruden and Jeff Fisher and Tom Coughlin. We’re sitting in the airport there. And the waiter comes over and says, hey, Terrell Owens is in there at Burger King. We’re like come on. We laughed about it. He said ‘No, he’s really over there.’ So we ran over there just like fans. I guarantee we didn’t ask for autograph, but we did say hi and kind of rekindled the relationship. I think he’s a good guy and a good player.”

Does talking to T.O. in a Burger King in Iraq constitute tampering? Commissioner Roger Goodell will have to weigh in on this. In any case, the Ravens could take the flyer they tried to take on T.O. when he went from the 49ers to the Eagles in 2004 after fighting a trade that would have sent him to Baltimore. And even this many years later, the Ravens could be better for it.

One more time – and now it’s for all the marbles.

When the United States and Canada meet Sunday for the second time during these Olympics, the men’s hockey gold medal will be on the line.

Perhaps a bigger prize will be bragging rights.

With 14 players age 25 or younger, this new generation of Team USA wasn’t given much of a chance to get here. Certainly not like host Canada, where hockey is revered on all levels from Newfoundland to British Columbia and therefore was simply expected to skate away with gold.

Guess again.

The Americans will be looking to beat Canada on its own turf – one week after defeating their northern neighbors to close out the preliminary round. Team USA also hopes to do so on the 50th anniversary of winning its first gold, and 30 years after the “Miracle on Ice” team literally came out of nowhere to stun the international hockey world on its grandest stage.

“We believe we can win,” U.S. coach Ron Wilson said. “I’m not guaranteeing we’re winning the game, but we certainly believe we can. And why shouldn’t we believe we can win the game?”

Why, indeed. The Americans have faced every challenge thrown their way and are still undefeated.

“We all talked, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice?’ and now we have the opportunity,” said Ryan Miller, who’s allowed five goals while getting five wins and should get strong consideration as tournament MVP. “We have the talent. We have some youthful excitement, we have the right kind of veteran players.”

Despite beating Canada already, there’s also this payback angle: In 2002, the Canadians were celebrating after having won their sixth gold and Olympic high-tying 12th hockey medal by beating the United States in Salt Lake City.

“When it comes to hockey, nobody likes each other,” Canada forward Corey Perry said before the Olympics.

Losing once already to the U.S. has been a painful experience felt across the Great White North. A second loss would be excruciating, then devastating.

“We love the chance of playing them again,” Canada forward Jarome Iginla said. “There’s a lot of rivalries with them – from world juniors through the ladies. They beat us. Now we have the opportunity to play them again. It’s going to be exciting, for the gold medal.”

Both clubs have taken vastly different yet entertaining roads to reach this point.

Team USA rolled through the opening round, capped by last Sunday’s shocking 5-3 win over Canada. They blanked Switzerland in the playoffs before what should have been a tough semifinal game versus Finland.

That matchup with the defending silver medalists, however, was decided in short order Friday when the U.S. scored all its goals in the first 12:46 in a 6-1 rout.

Hold off on any celebrations, though.

“We haven’t won anything yet,” said Zach Parise, who scored his third goal of the Olympics. “We’re getting better and that would be the most important and rewarding thing.”

While the U.S. has shown an unprecedented level of dominance, Canada has displayed an ability to pick itself up off the mat for the first time.

After falling to the Americans for the first time since 1960, Canada was faced with the daunting task of winning four straight games in six days.

Three down – barely – and one to go.

With dominating victories over Germany and Russia already in hand, Canada wasn’t tested much before giving up a pair of third-period goals and later withstanding a late flurry to hold off Slovakia 3-2 on Friday.

“This was a good test for us,” said Canada forward Sidney Crosby, who at 22 will try to add a gold medal to the Stanley Cup he won with the Pittsburgh Penguins eight months ago.

Coach Mike Babcock was half-smiling afterward, saying the U.S. should be favored. Defenseman Shea Weber added, “They did beat us, but now it’s a whole different game.”

Canada has the edge on offense with eight players having scored at least six points each compared to two on Team USA. The key will be Roberto Luongo, the captain of the hometown Canucks.

He took over for future Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur after the loss to the Americans, and though Luongo was solid in two wins after that and through two periods against the Slovaks, he can be rattled.

“We’re going to go right after them from the puck drop. We’re going to have to get in his (Luongo’s) face,” American forward Ryan Kesler said of his Vancouver teammate.

Impressed by the story of the North Carolina eBay seller who stumbled upon an ultra-rare, $13,000 Nintendo game? So were we — and so was Kansas reader Dave, who headed for his basement to see if there was video game gold lurking down there.

“We had quite a collection (185+ games) that has sat in our basement for over 20 years,” Dave told Y! Games. “The games were on a list to be brought to Goodwill – in fact, within a month, Goodwill was going to have them.”

To his astonishment, not only did he find a copy of the same game that just fetched over $13,000 on eBay — highly sought-after collector’s item Stadium Events — it was in perfect condition, right down to the original shrinkwrapping and Richard Gordman pricetag. (A mere $29.99, if you’re wondering.)

“Now I’m not much of a collector, but I know that having a factory seal is good,” he said.

But he’s only just now finding out quite how good.

As it turns out, the game’s unopened condition makes Dave’s copy of Stadium Events three times more valuable: he sold it on auction site eBay for a breathtaking $41,300. It’s thought to be one of only two shrinkwrapped copies of the game still in existence.

Why had he never unwrapped it? He couldn’t see the point. Stadium Events needed a special floor mat controller to play, and Dave couldn’t find one.

“The pads weren’t available when we went to purchase it,” he said. “We never got around to returning the game…lucky us!”

“Lucky us” indeed. Nintendo bought the rights to the floor mat controller in 1988, and recalled the few copies of Stadium Events that reached retailers. Fewer than 200 games are thought to have escaped destruction, and fewer than 20 are thought to still exist. Dave’s procrastination earned him a $41,270 profit, which he and his wife plan to invest.

“After taxes and tithing, the rest of our part will be going to a retirement account that has been decimated by the dot-com bomb, 9/11, and the recent market problems. Not very sexy, but needed.” He’s also going to auction off the rest of his Nintendo paraphernalia.

If that’s inspired you to comb your basement, attic, or other dark corners for valuable 1980s video game memorabilia, don’t underestimate the demand for even the most everyday of Nintendo collectibles — this box of Nintendo breakfast cereal sold on eBay last week for over $200. And if you think you’ve happened on a valuable game, check it against the list here to avoid disappointment.
