Recognize the signs

1. Sweeping you off your feet and declaring love immediately. This is the number one sign of a potentially battering relationship.

2. Jealousy: Not wanting you to have other friends. Thinking everyone around WANTS you. Expecting you to spend every second with him. Sorry, extreme jealousy isn’t a compliment – it’s a problem.

3. Controlling behavior: Keeping track of whom you’re with and where you are. Telling you what to wear. Picking your friends. Keeping you from getting a job. Taking your money. Threatening to commit suicide, to spread gossip about you, or out you if you’re part of a same-sex couple (gay and lesbian dating violence is under-reported due to pressures not to go public).

4. Violence (physical, mental, or sexual): Punching the wall. Yelling. Insults. Name-calling. Isolating you from family or friends. Slamming the door. Insisting on any kind of unwanted sexual activity. Throwing things. Pinching, pushing, spanking…enough said?

5. Relationship abuse not only poses direct dangers for teens but also puts them at risk for other problems. Teens who experience violent relationship abuse are more likely to take sexual risks, do poorly in school, and use drugs and alcohol. Girls are at higher risk for pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s), and suicide attempts.

Young men get abused too.

M.I.A. blamed her awful performance, for which fans paid $55 a ticket, on her sound team and something bigger (God?):
“money doesnt buy u shit! i thought more money means better sound guys in america/\/\/\! i was wrong, the higher u go , they turn u lower!” she tweeted on Sunday. Then, “>>>> EUROPE! >>>> NEW BRITISH SOUND TEAM! but the lesson is, its not technology! that still didn’t stop us! its bigger then that!”

“Hott Off the Wire”: Jermaine Dupri threatens blogger

An enraged Jermaine Dupri launched into a profanity-filled tirade during a late-night phone call last night that left the hair standing up on the back of my neck.

A friend called me around 11 pm to say he had Dupri on the line and was it alright if he spoke with me. I agreed to listen to what he had to say. Dupri began by ranting and raving about bloggers in general, and about me specifically.

JD, as he likes to be called, was reacting angrily to a post I wrote yesterday titled “How the Mighty Have Fallen: Jermaine Dupri Rebounds”.

While not denying that anything I wrote was false, he angrily vented about me “always” going in on him and his artists, including Dondria and Bow Wow.

He basically let me know that his goons were coming for me — with his blessing.

“I got people ready to kill you right now!,” he screamed. “I’m letting you know it’s serious in the streets right now,” said JD in a 3-way call from France where he had just finished partying.

He said repeatedly, “I run Atlanta! I got ni**as calling me saying they don’t know what you look like, but all I gotta do is point you out and they will F**K YOU UP!!!!”

I was extremely offended by all his yelling and cursing and I reminded JD that I was a grown ass woman. “I’m grown too!,” he responded. “I got ni**as that will f**k you up on sight!”

He wasn’t at all subtle with any of his threats — even though he insisted he wasn’t threatening me. “I know you’re recording this,” he yelled, “and I’m recording it too!” He made death threats unapologetically: “You already dead!,” he screamed.

After taking as much of the verbal abuse as I was willing to tolerate, I hung up on him and called the police.

Edit: I spoke with my attorney today.

No blogger should tolerate death threats from a celebrity. Whether the threats are veiled or direct, they are still threats against your life. And that it is against the law.

BRIAN MCKNIGHT is not the father of a teenage boy at the centre of a legal battle over child support.

A woman named Miriam Lee took the singer to court in Orange County, Florida last year (09) claiming her 14-year-old son was the product of a brief fling with the star.

MCKnight was ordered to hand over more than $340,000 (£226,600) in paternity payments after he failed to file court papers addressing Lee’s lawsuit and a judge made a default ruling in her favour.

The Back at One hitmaker subsequently took a DNA test in a bid to clear up the case and now the results have shown he is not the boy’s dad.

A judge has now dismissed the case, according to TMZ.com.

Snoop Dogg to “tone” his music down & appeal to his female fan base

But Dogg wants to make a record that pleases the ladies more.

British newspaper The Sun has reported that Snoop said: “I gotta tone it down.

“I’ve always given my female fans bits and pieces and I feel like I owe them a whole record.”

Hott Off the Wire: Ice T arrested in NYC

Despite playing a cop on Law & Order: SVU, rapper Ice-T failed to show respect for a true New York City cop yesterday. Ice-T expressed his rage via Twitter after he was arrested near the Lincoln tunnel for driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt.

“Some punk b**** rookie cop named Fisher just made the arrest of his bulls*** career,” he tweeted. Ice T, 52, and his wife, Coco, were pulled over in their 2009 white Cadillac sedan at around 9 a.m. They had just dropped their bulldog, Spartacus, off at the vet for knee surgery and were returning to their New Jersey home.

The mirror of Ice-T’s Cadillac brushed against a cop at a checkpoint, and the cop then motioned for him to pull over. He did not stop until after cops had run up to his car and banged on the tinted windows.

Ice-T was then arrested after insulting the cop and he was taken down to the precinct for about three hours where he was fingerprinted and given a desk-appearance ticket.

Wesley Snipes Owes 1.3million To The Government

Looks like Wesley Snipes is headed to the big house. Denzel wrote a letter on his behalf, as did Woody Harrelson pleading with the judge to spare his prison sentence. Snipes attorneys actually thought the verdict was considered unreasonable, after attempting to appeal his hearing. Wesley was acquitted of felony fraud and conspiracy charges yet was convicted of three counts of failing to file tax returns from 1999 to 2001 (according to the Jamaican Observer). The judge threw the book at Wesley giving him the maximum sentence in a Florida court room back in 2008. Records reveal he avoided reporting as well as paying 1.5 million in federal income taxes.

He was apprehended while trying to use a bogus passport at an airport in South Africa and was arrested after returning to the U.S.

Bay Area rapper Too Short was arrested and charged with three counts of misdemeanor battery Thursday morning (July 15) stemming from an incident in an Idaho nightclub.

According to police records, the 44-year-old MC (real name: Todd Shaw) was released after posting bail and is scheduled to return to court August 4.

Another man was also charged in the incident, which the Idaho Statesman is reporting as a fight with security workers who attempted to stop the rapper and his associate from inviting underage women to the backstage area.

Short performed at the Boise Knitting Factory on Wednesday night as part of a lineup that also included E-40 and Mack 10.

After his performance, the rapper and his associate, who was charged with two counts of battery, reportedly were involved in a tussle with club security, eyewitnesses told police, after the gentlemen warned Too Short about his behavior. Police were called to the scene and took the two men into custody. If Too Short is found guilty of all charges, he could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

As of press time, Too Short nor a representative for the rapper could be reached for comment.

SOHH has reported Em’s “Recovery” album debuted on the charts with over 744,000 copies. Eminem will easily hold onto the #1 spot next Tuesday, as the album experiences far less decay than the typical high-volume, second-week decline, with a likely fall-off of just around 55%. Shady will lead as many as six UMG titles into the Top 10–a nice housewarming present for incoming co-CEO Lucian Grainge. That said, it’s always difficult to know how things will trend during a holiday weekend, however, especially one that most people spend outside.
