Colin Kaepernick and President Obama

Colin Kaepernick’s protest during the U.S. national anthem has spread through other NFL players and reached women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe on Sunday. A little more than a week after Kaepernick stayed seated during a preseason game, U.S. President Barack Obama had a question about it land at his feet during a press conference.

Obama didn’t have much to say that hasn’t been said already — Kaepernick is exercising his Constitutional right, men and women that serve in the military see the flag and anthem as a symbol of freedom, it’s created an ongoing conversation about police brutality that wouldn’t be happening otherwise.

“I don’t doubt his sincerity, based on what I’ve heard. I think he cares about some real, legitimate issues that have to be talked about.”
