Premiere Of Sony Pictures' 'Ghostbusters' - Arrivals

Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones has been getting a lot of attention on social media these days, though not for the reason she would probably prefer.

Earlier this week, after getting trolled by racists on Twitter, she decided to leave the social network that she called “personal hell.”

The instigator of the racial attack has been revealed to be Milo Yiannopoulos, a Trump supporter and tech editor for the conservative news site Breitbart (who happens to be gay), and he’s been banned from Twitter thanks to his bigoted remarks.

Yiannopoulos called Jones “worthy of a minstrel show” in a review of the the film. Jones took a stand against his remarks which created an abusive campaign towards her by Yiannopoulos and his followers.

Twitter released a statement after Jones asked the site not to allow such behavior. “This type of abusive behavior is not permitted on Twitter, and we’ve taken action on many of the accounts reported to us by both Leslie and others,” the statement read.

Amazingly, not everyone is supportive of Twitter’s decision to give Yiannopoulos and his racist pals the boot. The hashtag #FreeMilo is trending because many people think his First Amendment rights are being violated.

Clearly, this is a complex situation with people advocating passionately on both sides. But most would agree that Twitter is a better place without some of these folks.
