Comedian and actor Louis C.K. doesn’t tend to shy away from controversial subjects. His standup set has previously touched on the media’s infatuation with racial epithets, and his FX show, “Louie,” once featured a racist grandmother who referred to Brazil nuts as “n***er toes.” Saturday night, the man regarded in many circles as the nation’s top standup comedian revisited America’s infatuation with race and drew some uncomfortable laughs joking about child molestation during his opening monologue on “Saturday Night Live.”

“I grew up in the ‘70s, so I’m not racist,” Louie C.K. joked. “However, I do have mild racism. It’s the best I could do coming out of the ‘70s.” The monologue touched on various negative racial stereotypes, and the bit drew criticism in some circles after Louie C.K. was also featured in a skit with Leslie Jones where he affected the vocal intonation of a black woman and used slang phrases such as “on fleek.”

Musical guest Rihanna wasn’t featured in any skits, but she performed her singles “B***h Better Have My Money” and “American Oxygen.”

Between Louie C.K.’s monologue, sketches featuring references to alleged unfair labor practices in Apple’s facilities in China and a debate to feature Harriet Tubman on the 20 dollar bill, Saturday’s season finale of “SNL” featured an undercurrent of taboo topics.
