Boy pulls knife on mom in West Athens, threatens to kill her
A 13-year-old boy pulled a knife on his mother and threatened to kill her Sunday evening outside a restaurant on Athens’ Westside, Athens-Clarke police said.
The boy grabbed each of his two brothers in a choke hold and threatened to kill one of them as well, police said.
A bystander called 911 about 7:15 p.m. to report the boy assaulted his mother and brothers outside of China Star Super Buffet, 3567 Atlanta Highway, police said.
The 34-year-old mother drove her sons to the restaurant for dinner, but the 13-year-old began to argue with his family as she pulled into the parking lot, police said.
She told her children that they were going home, but the 13-year-old jumped out of the car and refused to get back in, police said. As the woman started to drive off, the boy jumped on the hood of the car, according to police.
The woman got out and was walking toward the restaurant’s entrance, when her son ran after and kicked her in the back, police said.
As she turned around, the boy pulled a steak knife from his pants and said, “I’ll kill you bitch,” according to police.
The mother slapped the knife from her son’s hand, but he grabbed a younger brother in a choke hold and threatened to kill him, police said.
His younger brother ran to the restaurant’s entrance, where the 13-year-old caught him and grabbed him in a choke hold, according to police.
A man who witnessed the assaults pulled the older boy off his brother and tried to calm him down, while another man called 911, police said.
The boy was charged with aggravated assault, simple battery and being an unruly child and taken to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center, police said.
His brothers are 8 and 11 years old.
