Fat Joe has just been sentenced to four months in prison on tax evasion charges according to Latino Fox News.
The rapper, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena, received the sentence Monday in New Jersey federal court. Under a plea deal reached in 2012, Joe admitted to not filing federal income taxes on more than $1 million of income earned in 2007 and in 2008
The Terror Squad leader was also sentenced to one year of supervised release and was fined $15,000. He initially pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2012.
During a May 2013 interview with MTV’s RapFix Live, the rapper laid a lot of the blame on bad accountants.
“You gotta understand, we hire guys who are supposed have Harvard degrees to take care of us. The one thing I can say is, all the time you see artists, the first thing they did to you when you caught money was introduce you to a bunch of fancy guys with bow ties who are gonna take care of your money and all that and then you always see an artist or a celebrity or somebody like that going down for it and these guys never go down for it. But we didn’t go to Harvard for that”.
