The new Oz film, Oz the Great and Powerful, topped the weekend box office, beating out Colin Farrell’sDead Man Down.
The new Oz pulled in $80.3 million over the weekend. It serves as the prequel to the classic L. Frank Baum tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, chronicling the origin of the wizard, played by James Franco. The three witches he encounters are played by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz.
Last weekend’s top film, Jack the Giant Slayer, fell to #2 with $10 million; the comedy Identity Thieftook the #3 spot; and The Rock’s Snitch closed out the top 5 with $5.1 million.
