Kendrick Lamar’s long-awaited debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, hit stores this week, inspiring rapturous reviews from both critics and fans alike. But the project has also earned at least one outspoken detractor. On Twitter, the rapper Shyne caused a stir when he blasted the album for failing to live up to the hype.

“Yoooo! Kendrick Lamar is talented with a lot of potential but his album is traaaaash!” Shyne wrote.

“The game Documentary even 50 get rich or die trying lived up to the hype and were classics. Good kid is trash!” he wrote.

After the comments generated a wave of backlash from Kendrick Lamar fans on Twitter, Shyne stood by his opinion, although he apparently didn’t see a need to elaborate or go into detail.
