TMZ is reporting that rap legend Dwight Arrington “Heavy D” Myers passed away today at the age of 44. Around noon he was rushed to an LA hospital where he was pronounced dead. No official word on the cause of death as of yet. Investigation is underway, but there is no evidence to suggest criminal activity. R.I.P. Heavy D (May 24, 1967-November 8, 2011)!

Heavy D, most popular in the late 80’s through mid-90’s, was a multi-talent. He was a pioneer in the game, one of the first to successfully pull off being a rapper, producer, singer, and actor. He was responsible for writing the hit theme song to hit comedy shows In living Color and MADtv. Heavy D recently performed live for the first time in 15 years at the 2011 B.E.T. Hip Hop Awards.
