Little known facts about the budding career of Houston’s own Lil Playy.

In the year 2008, Lil Playy was recognized as a talented artist in BET’s Hot 16 Challenge, hosted by Jermaine Dupri.
Lil Playy wrote last year’s hot single “My Chick Bad,” performed by DTP’s Ludacris.
Lil Playy initially signed with de Passe Jones Entertainment and was later recognized by Jimmy Iovine; who then signed him to Interscope Geffen A&M.
In 2011, Kelly Rowland petitioned for Lil Playy to work on her new album “Here I Am” with the album track “Work It Man.”

New Music Alert: Michelle Williams Releases “Love Gun”

Michelle Williams is making a musical comeback with her new song “Love Gun.” Much like her Destiny’s Child counterpart Kelly Rowland, Michelle has gone the pop route on this tune.

It’s been three years since her last solo album “Unexpected” was released and this new track “Love Gun” is quite different from it’s preceding material while still centered on that left turn she took on her third project. With heavy synths and Casio keyboard-striking, the upbeat record is for the lucky in love and Michelle sure knows how to deliver.

“Never thought that love would ever shoot me down / One shot was all it took for love to take me out / Pistol is loaded / nowhere for me to hide / Hand on the trigger / Aiming for your bullseye,” she sings.

Williams recently told Concrete Loop, “My album will be ‘inspirational pop.’ Think of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ or Natasha Bedingfeld’s ‘Unwritten.’ I want to give people a message of hope while at the same time get them moving with dance inspired tracks.”

K’LA to Release “Freedom” Mixtape on Independence Day

She snuck onto the scene just over a year ago, but after waking up the world of entertainment with her candid flow, Def Jam Records/Music Line Group artist K’LA has claimed her spot for sure. K’LA has become known for the radio smash hit “All Your Love,” which appropriately samples Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low.” The track was the first to be lifted from the Gary, IN native’s refreshing debut “The Coldest Winter Ever,” but now she’s back with an even bigger bang for your buck.

K’LA The Lyricist is officially set to return this week with a blast off delivered in perfect timing for Independence Day (July 4th). In fact, the mixtape’s title “Freedom” just might be the sonic liberation we all need. In an industry that churns out manufactured hits and superstars just the same, K’LA has the remedy for it all. Do it your own way and be the best at what you do. Oddly enough, this formula seems to be working, but can she do it a second time around? Coming up in the ranks with the now defunct ensemble Danity Kane and most recently making solid contributions to the new R&B collective Diddy Dirty Money, Dawn Richard is totally being setup for instant solo success. She’s proven her vocals are incredibly limitless and her songwriting is beyond incomparable so standing on her own two feet shouldn’t be difficult at all. In fact, the music industry and fans abroad of this fly fashionista have begged and begged for a solo project for at lease two years now. Dawn already knows, but she’s taking her time to do it the right way. Every blue moon there’s a hit record that comes out of nowhere that can easily be heard blasting out of the car speakers flying by while you’re standing on the corner or suddenly grabs your attention with increased spins on the radio. The major airplay R&B newcomer Frank Ocean has quickly drummed up with his summer sizzler “Novacane” has not only gained the singer/songwriter a solid fan base, but also enough mainstream support that now fellow R&B singers are taking a shot at duplicating his soul-baring vibe on the same record.

Cue R&B singer/songwriter Dawn Richard whom we know now from her days with Danity Kane and most recently Diddy Dirty Money collective. She’s another incredible vocalist and has an amazing talent for penning some serious tunes. Ironically the two are both originally from New Orleans, LA and shared the same tragic experience of being displaced from their roots in the deep south after the devastating Hurricane Katrina swept through their beloved city.

If tragedy begets inspiration and passion, the proof is definitely in the pudding. Check out Dawn Richard’s equally mesmerizing cover of Frank Ocean’s hit single and tell us if both versions are going to be added to your summer 2011 playlist.
